We are having network problems due to an internet service provider based issue that is affecting all of the New York area and parts of New Jersey. This is causing downtimes for some users. It is being addressed as we speak and should be fully functional again soon.

Some services on our systems are completely down right now, such as Air-Proxy, and others such as the forum service are slow/unreachable for people. Other services such as IRC do not appear as affected. We'll keep you updated.

Apologies for any inconveniences,
Jcink

The issues are still ongoing, unfortunately.

Here is an excerpt from our provider's blog which was sent to me via my twitter:

CODE
... The router in question is in New York City and handles traffic from the Verizon network to the larger Internet. It is one of a number of such routers in our network.

When routers have problems, they are designed to report that they are sick. Internet traffic is rerouted to adjacent routers automatically and sent around the trouble spot. In this case, that didn’t happen. The router went into a hung state and did not appear to the rest of the network as though it was having problems.

That meant that some user traffic from the northeast continued to flow to the stalled router, but couldn’t be processed. Presto – an outage for those users...

...The problem occurred at approximately 3:15 EDT and was detected and resolved :40 minutes later. Traffic began to flow normally and customers returned to service at that point.

Currently, we’re monitoring the router and the network watching for any other problems.

Service is not fully restored but they are on top of the issue.

Sounds like they're fault for not staying on top of it but it happens.. any clue on the duration of downtime? I mean will the site itself be up?

Well lets put it this way: "they are designed to report that they are sick. "

They really had no idea it happened because it didn't report it, and also they don't know why it happened, so they shut it down.

Things are do far better now; for the most part connectivity is restored again. There's still some slowness, but they're working it out.

I agree that it's appalling that one little "router" crashed and caused a massive outage and interruption to much of the Northeast's connection. In a way - it's pretty scary how quickly large part of the internet can just be taken out like that if there's ever a problem. It also makes me wonder if something else happened or there's additional details...

However, at least they gave us updates and we know whatever it is, it's being worked on. The only thing to do now is wait.

Jcink has a static IP address and will never have that change so all your domain stuff should be fine. It sounds like your domain host is having problems

There could still be some bad routing. Although if you're mostly having problems when using your domain, then it's a domain issue and this is unrelated. Just to be clear.
