 Linked / Sub Accounts [complete]
#
A seemingly heavily requested feature for useful for niche communities; particularly roleplay boards. However, it can have other uses as well.

It sounds like what it is; with this feature you can link accounts to your own for easy switching in and out via a menu that can be placed anywhere within the wrappers or within the User CP.

A quick run down of how this works:
  • Users can securely link full-fledged accounts from their parent accounts by authenticating them correctly in the User CP.
  • Authenticated accounts become linked to a parent account and appear in the switch menu.
  • Sub accounts can easily switch back into their parent account; and a list of their parent's linked identities as WELL as their own linked accounts are tied together.
  • Sub accounts are totally full-fledged accounts with their own permissions, avatars, etc. You are basically only creating an easy link between your parent and the sub so the account retains all of its individuality besides that.
Note: Of course, this feature will be optional and disabled by default.

The switch menu below is a work-in-progress, but as-is it's working on our development board. The User CP link-up sections are not done though.

I'm logged in as "Jcink", and you can see the list of my owned accounts (I just filled it with random forum accounts). I switch into the account phoenix wright quite easily, and then my options change. I can see PW's linked accounts, the parent's accounts, and of course the parent itself.

Can't wait for this to happen!

This is going to make roleplay board 10x better. Bad thing is, it will be better for my competition too lol.

This will even help for people who have an admin account but also have a regular members account so you can see things as a member and make sure things are right

Yay! Thank you so much for working on this. I can't wait until this is put into place so I can play around with it for my board. biggrin.gif

Woohoo!! I'm so excited!

You, sir, are awesome.

With IF going to hell the way it is, you're going to get so many more people on your boards from the roleplaying community.

This is great. I think JCink is going to gain a lot of converts from IF soon...
#
I believe that we will get tons of converts. I am working on a skin for RPG converts as well. Will be like the ones you all know only a bit upgraded. Can you say...collapsible sidebar?

Oh I can't wait for this to be finished!

I'm curious if the 'user online' will display across accounts, or only for the account you are logged into at the time?

For instance, if I'm logged into Account1 and someone is looking at my profile for Account2, will it show that I am online or offline?

Thanks!

I'm curious if the 'user online' will display across accounts, or only for the account you are logged into at the time.

It will only display the account you are logged into at the time because you are not actually logged into the parent. You hopped from the parent to one of it's children, but you are no longer anywhere within the parent's account.

The sub account mechanism is intended to provide a link-up to give an easy log-in/log-out via a switch menu with no need to re-authenticate. The account still retains all individuality otherwise, including avatar, signature, and group/permission settings, online/offline related settings, etc.

A relatively simple interface for establishing account link-ups.

I am really looking to buckle down and roll this one out soon, it's actually going along pretty well. It's very simple in nature, it's just spending time to get it done, make it all look nice and add the right settings. smile.gif

Some group-based settings I will be adding:

Show this group's sub accounts in their profile (default: yes)
Maximum number of sub accounts this group can create (default: 5, set to 0 disallow)

These settings mimic the SMF mod.
